As winter approaches, be sure to change to a short sump pump hose, and it should slope away from the house. These examples show a hose that is traveling uphill, and is frozen. This pump most likely ran until it burnt out.
Remember to bring in your pressure washers, garden hoses, and sprinklers. They can also freeze and break.
Don't forget to disconnect hoses and quick connects from frost free outside taps. Let those babies drain out!
A safe hose should be 4" in diameter, or more, and less than 12' long. Sloped correctly it won't freeze.
